The Mind and Body Balancing Act

Posted on

Running a fitness and wellbeing business, a huge part of my ensemble is being fit. This is more of a personal mindset rather than a physical manifestation. The way I view fitness is 20% physical and the rest mental stability. Having a degree in Psychology and many years of playing sports, I've spent most of my life trying to figure out how to balance my physical and mental strength, with age I've realised the importance of conditioning both. Having muscles has little to do with strength. Having discipline to live a healthy lifestyle has everything to do with our mind, that being said, our bodies are all on the same path to atrophy or breakdown.  The real key is to find or practice some form of what I like to call "mental conditioning". I've practiced everything from yoga, meditation to weekly floating sessions in an isolation tank. Finding any method of detaching our mind from the body even if it's only for a short time will be vital for us once we reach old age. The body will break down but a strong mental state will evolve with time.

My happy place or escape is found in the form of "float tanks".  I'm nearly a two year veteran of the tank. Looking back at the way I used to think, the stresses that I would hang onto , the tank has been a very important tool for me and my personal growth. I recommend the isolation tank to all my clients, friends and family. The best part of floating is that each experience is different. Every float I learn more about myself and more efficient ways to achieve extreme relaxation . What works for one person doesn't mean it will work for the next. I tell all my clients "to find what works for Them".

The most important factor in living a well balanced holistic lifestyle is motivation. It's imperative to have a clear view of what you want your future to look like. This will enable you to wake up earlier, make better nutrition choices, actively  train your body and start living  a happier life. At the end of the day we all know what makes us happy..but do we do it? That's where motivation comes in to play. Stop eating the garbage foods, stop treating your body like a dumpster and hold yourself accountable. One step forward is how every great invention has begun, once we gain momentum our mind will tell our body that we can achieve anything we dream up.. Recognise that happiness is found within us all. The only person you should strive to be better than is yourself. Be kind to people, and be kind to yourself.
